REPORTING INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL-RELATED DISEASES
The Central Valley GeoSentinel Project (CVGP) is a part of the GeoSentinel Surveillance Network, a cooperative agreement between the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ( http://www.istm.org/geosentinel/main.html ). GeoSentinel is based on the concept that these clinics are ideally situated to effectively detect geographic and temporal trends in morbidity among travelers, immigrants and refugees. Information on changes, outbreaks or alarming events is dispersed to public health physicians and travel/tropical medicine specialists throughout the world. This information enables us to respond in a timely manner to assist our increasingly mobile global population. CVGP is a community-based program and depends upon input and commitment of all people of the Central San Joaquin Valley. Its success depends upon the involvement of both the medical community and the general public. We strongly encourage physicians seeing travel-related illness to join in this collaboration so we may make international travel safe for us all.
